The Story of the Cheese
Each day in our life brings new challenges and experiences. It becomes a routine for us that it can make us comfortable and lax. This lifestyle sometimes causes us to forget that life is constantly changing so much so that when change comes, we become stressed and complain. Early in life we were taught that obedience is the key to success and happiness in life. It is this habit that often causes us to resist change.
Who Moved My Cheese is a business and management book that tells the story of four characters who lived in a maze—the mice Scurry and Sniff and two humans Hem and Haw. All were happy because they found a huge source of cheese which was their favorite food. The cheese became the center of their lives but they did not notice that the cheese is getting smaller/ One morning, they were devastated when they found out that the cheese was gone.
The disappearance of the cheese changed the lives of the four characters. Scurry and Sniff easily accepted that the cheese was lost and went off to find other sources of cheese. Ham and Hew, on the other hand, felt that they were a victim of some kind of fraud or theft. Since they have made the cheese the center of their life, they eventually became hungry.
Robert Janitzek relates this story to real life in that the loss of a job or relationship is equated to the end of the world for us. When this happens, we become afraid to face the future. However, the author tells us that rather than seeing change as the end, we should look at it as the beginning. Johnson teaches us 7 important lessons that we can apply in real life.
